The Magpie’s Nest: A Community-Built Art Installation to Shine at Antigonight Art After Dark Festival
Antigonish, NS – September 14, 2024 – The Magpie Collective is excited to present The Magpie’s Nest, an interactive art installation that will be featured at this year’s Antigonight Art After Dark Festival. This collaborative project was created by a group of artists and makers who came together to show what community-driven art can achieve.
The Magpie’s Nest draws inspiration from the magpie bird’s famous habit for collecting shiny objects. In this installation, the instinct to collect is amplified with the generation of a community through a participatory experience. Visitors can look though small windows into the nest to see different lit-up scenes – each a unique and imaginative creation. These scenes, which range from playful to strange, are individual pieces of art that also fit together to tell a larger story.
“This project is about people coming together to collaborate towards a shared vision,” says a representative from The Magpie Collective. “We wanted to create a space where people could learn from each other, share materials, and express their creativity. The Magpie’s Nest is the result of that journey, filled with teamwork, kindness, and shared inspiration.”
The installation is the result of months of community effort, with twenty-six artists of all backgrounds contributing their visions.
