Indigo dyeing: Oct 16-17

In this course participants will learn how to make their mark with one of the oldest plant-based dyes in the world: Indigo. Through live demonstrations, handouts and video tutorials, learn the science and history behind this amazing craft. Learn to make and maintain an indigo vat, and the traditional techniques of Japanese shibori: folding, clamping and stitching to achieve repeating patterns and create one of a kind cotton scarf!

Interested in learning to dye your own fabric? In this weekend workshop we will be exploring how to achieve a variety of patterns using all natural materials like clays and soils. Play with colour using earth pigments from around the world, as well as many harvest right from the instructors region of Atlantic Canada. Participants will learn to prepare cloth for dyeing, experiment with pattern on a variety of samples and apply their final designs to a cotton bandana.
