Painting the Coastal Landscape, an ONLINE watercolour workshop

Learn how to paint the elements of a coastal landscape in watercolour over the course of 5 modules offered every two weeks with a break over the holidays. Four modules will cover specific topics: skies, water, greens/trees and greys/rocks. The fifth and final module will provide students the opportunity to put together all the skills learned in the first four. This is an ONLINE workshop.

Poppy is a skilled instructor and a clear communicator. Poppy provides a recorded video demonstration for each exercise. In her demonstration she explains each step of the painting process as she works. This gives students good insight into the many decisions that go into making that image. Furthermore, Poppy provides downloadable reference material and drawings for student use.

What is special about this workshop?

Students are encouraged to paint the exercises, and to post their work in the Vivify class “pod”. This is a private online space, open only to the students of this class. Poppy will review each student’s work and offer supportive advice designed to strengthen their skills. Students will receive individualized feedback on one exercise per module, regardless of how many pieces of homework are submitted. Poppy’s feedback to students will be complemented by her use of Vivify’s editing tools that allow her illustrate her advice, laid overtop of an image of the student work. This visual feedback is a crucial part of understanding the written words.
