Artworks East Lantern Making Workshop: Treasure Mountain

Artworks East Lantern Making Workshop: Treasure Mountain

Join workshop host Maud Peters to create your own cultural Fall lantern. Using paper mache, natural leaves and elements. All materials will be provided. Come back to Treasure Mountain on October 19th to join in on another event and participate in a fun parade/walk on the property to show off your creation! More details on the 19th will be shared soon! This is a family-friendly event.

Here is what Maud has to share about the inspiration behind the workshop:
“A fond memory of my childhood in Germany was the annual tradition of the “Laternen Lauf” (Lantern Parade). We would make our own lanterns in school, which we would later parade through town while singing songs. Traditionally it would be in the Fall to celebrate St. Martin’s Day (Nov. 11th), but today it also symbolizes recognizing the light within yourself and your community during the darker season. St. Martin’s day is celebrated in honour of Martin of Tours, a roman soldier who shared his warm cloak with a cold beggar on a chilly night.”
