sitting with It

Opening Night: February 5th from 6-8pm

Join us for sitting with It, guest-curated by Nina-Simone Kellman, a Black curator and artist. Featuring work by Black and mixed-race Nova Scotian artists, sitting with It brings their stories and experiences to the forefront.

While we remain feeling stiff and taut, how are we allowed to absolve ourselves of tension? In which ways are we allowed to sit in stillness, reflect on the tools in which we equip ourselves? This might look like public spectacle, performance, pastiche or abstraction. To liberate one from this tension, we are lucky to have the gift of depicting these complex feelings into artwork. sitting with It is a collection of pieces from Black artists reflecting on the everyday feelings of tension. Depicting the feelings of the undoing or feelings rooted in tensions surrounding their experience with Black identity in rich and unique ways.
