Presence of Trees

In “The Presence of Trees” Linda Johns and Anna Syperek help us intuit our own deep connection with the natural world by bringing us to the trees, at the edge of the woods, by rivers and inlets, on hillsides, in clear cuts, in neighborhoods. Anna’s work penetrates the beauty of seasonal rhythms and the nuanced experience of place with her detailed, poetic realism. She is particularly interested in the juxtaposition of trees with human landscapes. Linda works more metaphorically, extracting archetypal characteristics of the tree’s most elemental strengths. In recent years she has joined poetry with the visual dimension – often a query, a song of praise, a plea on behalf of other creatures of the forest. By means of both artists’ keen perceptions we feel some kind of transmission – an honorable reciprocity is kindled with these wise, alive, stationary beings.
